Our StorieS

Throughout the years of traveling
to Vietnam and helping the children,
many memories have been made.

Honoring tradition with Tet Gifts

In Vietnamese culture, Tet is the biggest holiday of the year. Also known as the new-year holiday, it is traditional to give someone you love and respect a Tet gift, which is typically a symbol of life and prosperity. It is customary to present Lucky Money to children, in a red envelope, signifying a wish of luck and good things to happen to them in the new year.

The foundation strives to honor the culture and traditions of the Vietnamese people. We have given students Tet gifts equivalent to about $25 per student. This shows the foundation’s love, respect, and support of the children, while following a beloved tradition within their culture. These particular students are some that the foundation sponsors because they are affected by blindness. The foundation has goals to help these children with more accessible buildings, including restrooms in the Community Center.

Delivering Basketball Courts for the First Sports Program

Druing one of their many trips to Vietnam, Vince and Will spent time at the primary and secondary schools, where they gave the students Tet gifts. These gifts signify the men’s love and respect for the children. These Tet gifts were given to students who are fatherless or have a disabled parent or parents. This gift of money allows the students to provide for themselves and their family when their parents are unable.

During this 60-day trip, they were also able to have basketball courts delivered to the village of Hanoi. These basketball courts were provided by the foundation when establishing the first sports program for these children.

Wishes of Good Luck and Happiness for the New Year

Traditional Tet gifts that are given, other than Lucky Money, are tea and nutritious foods. In addition to the Lucky Money, many children, who are sponsored in the foundation’s group for the blind, were given red gift bags. Red is a popular color during the new-year holiday because they are believed to bring good luck and happiness in the upcoming year. These red gifts given to the students contained coffee, tea, crackers, and cookies to show the foundation’s love and respect for the students.

Establishing the First Elementary School Library

While the foundation’s mission is to help the children of Vietnam finish school to better their futures, it is important to also upgrade what the schools are able to offer to the children.

Vince and Will were able to create the first elementary school library for the children to access. This allows the students to begin reading at a younger age, furthering their overall educational capabilities.
